The IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) challenged the President of the United States (Republican Party) to send American naval vessels to escort oil tankers across the country, Iranian state media reported on Friday (6.Mar.2026). The information is from the news agency.
“Iran strongly welcomes the oil tanker escort and the fact that US forces will be present at the crossing of the Strait of Hormuz. And by the way, we are awaiting their presence”Iranian Revolutionary Guards spokesman Alimohammad Naini said, according to state media.
“We recommend that, before making any decisions, Americans remember the fire of the US supertanker Bridgeton in 1987 and the oil tankers that were recent targets.”Naini added.
Last Tuesday (March 3), Trump said that the US Navy had tankers in the region. “No matter what happens, the United States will ensure the free flow of energy to the world”the Republican wrote in one on the Truth Social platform.
Conflict in the Middle East has disrupted shipping and energy exports in the Strait of Hormuz. The sea route between the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf accounts for 20% to 30% of global oil transport. Last Monday (2nd March), the Iranian government announced and threatened to attack ships that try to pass through the region.
At least 9 ships have been attacked since the US and Israel began their offensive against Iran on February 28.
