Trump creates military coalition with 17 countries to "eradicate cartels" and announces direct negotiations with Cuba

In recent days, the US president had defined Cuba as the US’ next target, if the country refused to negotiate with Washington.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Saturday the creation of a new military coalition with the aim of “eradicating the cartels” in the Western Hemisphere. The revelation was made during a speech before leaders of Latin American countries, gathered at Trump’s golf resort in Miami.

According to the North American president, 17 countries have already formally joined the new alliance, which aims to reinforce cooperation between nations in the region in the fight against organized crime networks.

But that wasn’t the only news. In the same intervention, Trump also stated that Cuba “is at the end of the line” and that, therefore, it is interested in reaching an agreement with the United States. According to him, negotiations would be taking place directly with Trump himself and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“They want to negotiate and they are negotiating with Marco, with me and with some others, and I think that an agreement with Cuba will be reached very easily”, he highlighted in front of journalists.

The announcement comes after, on Thursday night, Trump defined Cuba as the next US target, if this country refused to negotiate with Washington. “We want to resolve this situation first [do Irão]but it will only be a matter of time before you – and many other extraordinary people – can return to Cuba”, he told journalists that day, from the White House.
