Mobilizations denounce violence, feminicide and call for rights and equality on International Women’s Day
Events held this Sunday (March 8, 2026) marked International Women’s Day in several Brazilian cities. Feminist movements, unions and social organizations promoted marches and demonstrations against gender-based violence, femicide and the inequalities faced by women.
The mobilizations took place in at least 18 capitals, including Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Belém, Salvador, Goiânia, Maceió, Natal, Curitiba, Florianópolis and Porto Alegre.
In the federal capital, the concentration was held at the Ibero-American Cultural Axis, with a planned walk towards the Palácio do Buriti, seat of the government of the Federal District.
In Rio de Janeiro, thousands of women participated in a march in Copacabana to denounce violence and demand more investment in public protection policies. In São Paulo, the event took place in the open space of Masp, on Avenida Paulista, bringing together feminist movements and trade unions.
In addition to denouncing violence, the demonstrations defended equal pay, combating harassment, expanding female political participation and the end of the 6×1 work schedule.
According to participating organizations, the national mobilization reinforces that March 8 is a day to fight for rights and structural changes to guarantee security and equality for women in the country.
