The arrangement of the most important household appliances in the kitchen has a huge impact on the convenience of preparing meals. That’s why interior designers have been sticking to one proven rule for years.

One of the basics of ergonomic kitchen design is the so-called working triangle. It is created by the three most important points in the room: refrigerator, sink and stove the heating plate. The idea is very simple: the equipment should be arranged to form a triangle. Thanks to this, the path between product storage, washing and heat treatment is as short as possible. In practice, this means less walking around the kitchen and more smooth operation. Interior design specialists emphasize that this arrangement works well in most kitchens, regardless of their size.

In order for the work triangle to actually improve the ergonomics of the kitchen, appropriate distances between equipment are important. The most commonly used rules say that:

  • between the fridge and the sink it should be about 120-210 cm,
  • between the sink and the hob it is best to keep 120-210 cm,
  • distance of the refrigerator from the stove can be 120-270 cm.

The entire circumference of such a triangle should not exceed approximately 6 meters. In smaller kitchens, some sections can be shortened to approximately 90 cm. The worktop is also important. It is best if there is at least 80 cm of space between the sink and the hob, which allows you to conveniently prepare products for cooking.
