Revolutionary Guard says it will give free passage to countries that break relations with the United States and Israel
The Iranian Armed Forces said this Tuesday (March 10, 2026) that they are waiting for the United States naval fleet in and stated that the outcome of the “It’s in Iran’s hands”. On the same day, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps), declared that it will give unrestricted passage through the strait to Arab or European countries that expel ambassadors from Israel and the USA and break diplomatic relations with the 2 countries.
The signal came from the IRGC spokesman, Major General Ali Mohammad Naeini, in a speech published by Iranian state media. He stated that Iranian forces await the arrival of the American fleet in the Strait of Hormuz region and also the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford. Naeini also said that US ships, vessels and fighter planes would have moved away from the area and started operating more than 1,000 km away, in an attempt to avoid Iranian missiles and drones. The information is from .
The military also stated that, if the attacks carried out by the US and Israel continue, Iran will not allow the export of “1 liter of oil” of the region.
The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow strip of water between the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman. Despite being only around 38 kilometers wide in its narrowest section, it contains the passage of almost 1/5 of the world’s oil supply. Therefore, any threat to navigation in the area has an almost immediate effect on the markets, putting pressure on the price of a barrel and raising fears of shortages.
On March 5, the IRGC had already stated that it was attacking ships from the US, Israel, Europe and other Western allies. The measure reinforced the perception that Tehran started to use control of the maritime passage as an instrument of military retaliation and diplomatic pressure.
Also on Monday (March 9), the IRGC declared that Arab or European countries that expel American and Israeli ambassadors and cut relations with the two governments will have “full rights and freedom” to cross the sea route.
On the American side, the president (Republican Party) will give a speech on Monday (9th March). Said the strait “it will remain safe” and threatened to impose a cost on Iran “incalculable” if the country tries to attack vessels. In another statement, the US president stated that he could attack Iran 20 times harder than it has already attacked. At the moment, 2 American aircraft carrier strike groups are deployed in the Middle East: the USS Abraham Lincoln, in the Arabian Sea, and the USS Gerald R. Ford, in the Red Sea, after crossing the Suez Canal.
CLIMBING IN TENSION
The event was held after weeks of tension between the 2 countries. On February 19, Trump stated that, within 10 days, he would know whether to give “one step forward” in relation to an attack against the Persian country.
Afterwards, the Republican declared that everyone, including the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces, Dan Caine, considers that a possible war against Iran would result in one.
In , on Tuesday (24.Feb), Trump said that the US had not yet heard Iran pronounce “those magic words: ‘we will never have a nuclear weapon’”. In his speech, the American president stated that the Persian regime “has already developed missiles that could threaten Europe and our bases abroad, and is working to build missiles that will soon reach the USA”.
Trump’s statements were made while dealing with Iran, which did not result in an agreement.
A senior Iranian official told Reuters that the country if the Americans recognized its right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes and lifted economic sanctions.
