Herbs have great power, which is why they are often used in cosmetics and natural medicine. One of the most popular plants used in herbal medicine is lavender. How to prepare homemade syrup from it and when to use it?

Lavender is a plant from the Lamiaceae family, which is distinguished primarily by its intense, refreshing scent. It is relaxing and extremely pleasant – that’s why lavender has many fans who plant it in the garden or in pots. This plant looks extremely impressive, decorating the space with its purple flowers. It also has many medicinal properties.

Lavender is an important element of natural medicine. First of all, lavender has analgesic, relaxing, antispasmodic and antiseptic properties. You can use it to prepare, for example, an infusion that helps you fall asleep and relieve migraines, or a syrup that supports digestion. It has quite versatile effects – it is even used in cosmetics.

Lavender syrup can be an aromatic and healthy addition to drinks and desserts. To prepare it, we will need fresh or dried flowers. If we choose fresh ones, cut them off the stems and prepare a whole glass. If we choose dried ones, we will need ½ cup of edible (narrow-leaved) lavender flowers. Add 1 glass, 1 glass and the juice of half a lemon.

Mix water and sugar in a pot and heat until it dissolves. Then add lavender flowers to the mixture and cook over low heat for 10 minutes. When this time has passed, remove the pot from the stove, cover it and leave it to cool. You can leave it on for up to 24 hours.

When this time has passed, strain the syrup through a strainer, squeezing out the flowers. Add lemon juice to it. It can be poured into sterilized jars or bottles and stored in the refrigerator.

Lavender syrup primarily accelerates digestion, reduces flatulence and colic, and increases the secretion of bile and gastric juices. It is worth using it after a large meal, adding 1 or 2 teaspoons to lukewarm water or tea. The syrup also has an analgesic effect and reduces tension. It has a calming effect.

Due to the lack of research, it should not be used by children under 12 years of age and pregnant women (especially in the first trimester) or breastfeeding women.
