Renan Filho leaves, and number 2 takes over Ministry of Transport – 03/09/2026 – Brasília Hoje

Command of the MT (Ministry of Transport) will be assumed, from April, by George Santoro, who currently holds the position of executive secretary of the department.

current minister, leaves his post at the end of this month, to resume his seat in the Senate, for Alagoas. He leaves office to run for government of Alagoas.

The change has not yet been made official, but the decision has been made within the ministry.

Number two in the department and Renan Filho’s main assistant, Santoro coordinates transport policies for highways and railways, having already commanded the ministry during Renan Filho’s travels.

Before arriving at the Ministry of Transport, Santoro was Secretary of Finance of Alagoas for around 8 years, during the government of Renan Filho. He was also president of Comsefaz (National Committee of State Finance Secretaries).

In Rio, Santoro was an external control auditor for the Court of Auditors of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro, as well as undersecretary of State Finance.

With the change, the candidate to take on the role of executive secretary is Adrualdo de Lima Catão, who is currently MT’s national traffic secretary.

This year, one of the main objectives is to have a portfolio of eight projects for concession, totaling more than R$600 billion in investments.

The initiative for the private sector will begin in 2026 with the offer of “”, an already existing – but underused – network measuring 740 km in length and connecting the Minas Gerais cities of Arcos, Lavras and Varginha to the Rio de Janeiro municipalities of Barra Mansa and Angra dos Reis. The route is currently part of the FCA (Centro-Atlântica Railway) network and will be the first to be offered under the authorization model.

The first new concession project is EF-118, with a notice scheduled to be published this month and auction in June. With 245.95 kilometers in its mandatory phase, the railway will be built from scratch and will connect São João da Barra, in the north of Rio de Janeiro, to Santa Leopoldina, in Espírito Santo.

The project also includes an additional phase, between Nova Iguaçu and São João da Barra, in Rio, which could later be activated by the government. With an estimated investment of R$6.6 billion, the project has the potential to generate up to .

Next comes the existing one, which has a notice scheduled for April 2026 and an auction scheduled for July. This is one of the longest railway sections included in the package, with 1,593 kilometers, connecting Corumbá (MS) to Mairinque (SP).

The third project in line is (Fico-Fiol), which should have a notice published in May 2026 and an auction in August. The concession totals 1,647 kilometers, between Caetité (BA) and Água Boa (MT).

It is one of the most important productive integration corridors in the country, connecting the Center-West to the west of Bahia, up to Porto Sul, in Ilhéus. With a planned investment of R$41.85 billion, its vocation is to transport soybeans, corn, grains in general and liquid bulk.
