Actions began on March 8 and are part of the National Day of Women’s Struggle against gender-based violence
The (Landless Rural Workers Movement) carries out occupations on 9 rural properties in 7 states. The actions began on March 8 and are part of the MST’s National Day of Women’s Struggle.
The movement chose properties where crimes such as slavery-like work, land grabbing and environmental devastation were recorded. The states where the occupations take place are Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Pernambuco, Piauí and Tocantins.
The day was organized in defense of popular agrarian reform and against gender-based violence. In addition to the occupations, marches and roadblocks were also carried out in 13 states and 23 municipalities.
“The journey has expressed what can be organized women facing the crimes of large estates and also this escalation of violence against women, largely legitimized by this conservative discourse and the advance of the extreme right in our society”said Ayala Ferreira, who is part of the MST’s national coordination.
