Two more PSP agents assured, this Wednesday, in court that they saw a knife next to the body of Odair Moniz, killed by a police officer in Amadora in 2024, adding that, at the time, they did not discuss it with anyone.
almost a year and a half ago, and, to this day, there continue to be contradictions regarding the presence or absence of a knife next to the victim’s body.
André Silva and Noemia Almeidatwo police officers, who arrived at the scene of the crime after the Cape Verdean had been shot, now said, in court, that they saw a knife with the citizen.
However, at that time, They did not discuss the presence of the knife with anyone.
“The important thing there was to try to save a life. I think that making comments about something that was there wouldn’t help the situation one bit”, said André Silva, who arrived in the Cova da Moura neighborhood after Bruno Pintoto be tried for murder, having shot the Cape Verdean citizen twice.
The agent stated that the knife was close to Odair Moniz’s left hand and had a black fist, but was unable to specify what size it was the weapon nor what the blade looked like.
The other agent who went with André Silva to the Cova da Moura neighborhood corroborated his colleague’s version, without, however, providing certainty that the sharp object he saw corresponded to another that was seized in the processwith whose photograph he was confronted today.
Noemia Almeida He also testified that he did not remember having told someone that he had seen the knifesince there was another police officer responsible for managing the crime scene and no resident would pick up a weapon with so many PSP elements present there.
Was there a knife or not?
In the first session of the trial, on October 22, Bruno Pinto, 28, insisted that believed that the 43-year-old citizen was threatening him with a knife when he shot.
Since then, witnesses, including police officers and residents, have presented divergent versions regarding the possession and wielding of the weapon.
Odair Moniz was shot dead by a PSP agent on October 21, 2024, after having attempted to flee and resisted being arrested as a result of a traffic violation.
In the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s indictment, there was no threat with a knife. The trial continues on March 25, 2026, at the Central Criminal Court of Sintra.
Bruno Pinto is free, suspended from dutiesand carries a sentence of eight to 16 years in prison.
