A Lota Restaurant was born from a friendship and there you can live around a table with fish and seafood

The A Lota restaurant, located in Alvor, was born in 2002 from a friendship project between two people who shared a taste for cooking. The initial idea was to create a space where ingredients were carefully selected and where dishes were prepared with attention to the freshness of the products. According to information provided on the d’ website, the proposal has always been to serve simple meals, but prepared with rigor and respect for flavors.

Over the years, the space has established itself as a meeting point for those looking for dishes linked to the sea and the region’s gastronomic tradition. The philosophy remains centered on the quality of the raw materials and the way they are worked in the kitchen.

A name that was born from the history of the village

The choice of the restaurant’s name is directly linked to Alvor’s past. The name “A Lota” arises because the space is located next to the village’s old fish auction, where for many years fishermen sold freshly caught fish from the sea.

This place was also a common meeting point for the community, where many residents would gather at the end of the day after work. This connection with maritime activity helped define the restaurant’s identity.

Cuisine centered on the flavors of the sea

Much of the menu reflects this proximity to the sea, with several proposals based on fish and seafood. Among the available starters are, for example, clams, priced at 24 euros per portion, or Portuguese-style mussels, prepared with onions, tomatoes and peppers, available for 13.50 euros.

The Bulhão Pato razor clam is also one of the most common options on the menu, priced at 16.50 euros. Other suggestions include oysters served in a set of six for 18 euros.

Dishes that highlight fresh ingredients

The menu also includes different seafood and grilled fish options. Options include fried shrimp with finger pepper, lemon and coriander (R$ 15.50), or grilled shrimp served in five pieces (R$ 14.50).

It is worth noting that there are also dishes that combine contemporary cooking techniques with traditional ingredients, such as lobster ravioli with bisque and lime zest, available for 14.50 euros.

Some suggestions in the letter were designed to be shared between two people. One of the options is the fish cataplana, prepared with fish, shrimp, mussels and razor clams, available for 58 euros for two people. Another proposal is called Mariscada Lota, which includes crab, grilled shrimp, boiled shrimp, mussels, razor clams and oysters, priced at 68 euros for two people.

A space designed for coexistence

The space where the restaurant operates has also evolved over the years. What was once a small courtyard of a fishermen’s house ended up being a large, glass-enclosed room.

During the warmer months, this structure can be fully opened, allowing a direct connection to the outside. The space also includes a terrace facing the sun, where customers can extend their meal or simply enjoy a moment of conviviality.
