An impressive video circulating on social media this Friday (13/03) shows the exact moment a climber experienced seconds of pure terror. When trying to descend the Rysy mountainthe highest point in Poland, the man took a wrong step and ended up falling down a steep slope covered in snow.
The recording, captured by people who were there, went viral after being shared by a profile specializing in mountaineering in Slovakia.
The incident occurred last Saturday (07/03), in the Massif dos Montes Tatraa mountain range that forms the natural border between Poland and Slovakia. In the images, it is possible to see the climber losing his balance when touching an unstable layer of snow.
As a result of the fall, he ends up letting go of his ice ax (ice axe), an essential tool for emergency braking, which left him completely at the mercy of gravity.
High speed fall
Out of control, the man slides hundreds of meters downhill at high speed. The video records the climber doing several somersaults as he desperately tries to find a support point to stop his descent.
According to the report in the original publication, the weather conditions on the day were considered stable, which reinforces that the accident was caused by a specific stepping error.
Miracle in the snow
Despite the violence of the images and the speed reached, the outcome of the story was considered a miracle. The climber managed to stop the fall on his own and, surprisingly, did not suffer serious injuries.
According to witnesses and the profile that released the images, the man left the incident conscious and was only complaining about a pain in one of the fingers.
The case serves as a warning to winter sports practitioners about the hidden dangers even on sunny days with apparently firm snow.
