Jair Bolsonaro hospitalized again in Brasília

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was transferred this Friday in the early hours of the morning from the prison in which he is serving a sentence of more than 27 years to a hospital in Brasília, after experiencing health problems, said his son and senator Flávio Bolsonaro.

“I just received the news that my father is on his way to the hospital, once again. Preliminary information that he woke up with chills and vomited a lot,” wrote Flávio Bolsonaro on social media.

The transfer was confirmed by the Military Policeresponsible for the prison where the former president is held, who stated that the medical team will provide additional information.

Bolsonaro Since 2018, he has faced several health problems related to the knife attack he suffered during the presidential campaign that year, when he was injured in the abdomen.

Since then, the former President has undergone several hospitalizations and medical procedures to treat complications resulting from this attack.

This is Bolsonaro’s first departure since he began serving his sentence for an attempted coup d’état, at the Papuda Penitentiary Complex, on January 15.

Bolsonaro’s latest malaise came just hours after Brazil’s Federal Supreme Court (STF) annulled the authorization granted to an advisor to the President of the United States to visit the former Brazilian leaderafter the Government warned against possible foreign interference.

Convicted of attempted coup d’état

The former President never acknowledged his electoral defeat in the October 2022 presidential elections, raised unfounded suspicions about the use of electronic voting machines, encouraged anti-democratic demonstrations at military bases and, according to the Court, designed plans to remain in power and even kill political and judicial opponents, including Lula da Silva himself and judge Alexandre de Moares.

The events culminated in the attacks in Brasília, on January 8, 2023.

Thousands of supporters of the former President invaded and vandalized the headquarters of the Federal Supreme Court, Congress and the Planalto Palace, in Brasília, in an attempted coup d’état to depose Lula da Silva from the Presidency.
