A survey by ICS and ISCTE for SIC and Expresso reveals the Portuguese’s assessment of the performance of the new President, António José Seguro, in comparison to his predecessor, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
If everything goes as the new President of the Republic wishes, the news of this research will be manifestly premature. But, believing in the portrait that this opinion study of the ICS and the ISCTE for the SIC and the Express, Democratic Alliance (AD) e Socialist Party (PS) they are now tied in voting intentions.
The coalition that supports the Government obtains 25%and the PS is right behind, with 24%. O He arrives stays hairy 21%minus four percentage points. All other parties are far away, at a time when 9% say they are undecided and 8% say they have no intention of voting. If we remove the abstentionists and distribute the undecided ones, the picture becomes clearer.

And, speaking of presidential elections, this opinion study asked the Portuguese what they expect from the new head of state. In a first assessment of the recent performance of Marcelo Rebelo de Souza and of Antonio José Segurorespondents are prudent.
Numa scale from 0 to 10both receive a average of 6. With an above average score in the case of interviewees who confess to being supporters of the parties they come from: Marcelo receive 7,1 of supporters of the PSD; Insurance receive 7,8 two socialist sympathizers.
Conversely, both receive negative rating from respondents who sympathize with the He arrives. The majority, 46%believes that Antonio José Seguro will be more interventionist than Marcelo Rebelo de Souza. A little less, 40%believe that the degree of intervention will be similar to that of its predecessor. Only 8% predict that Insurance will intervene less than Marcelo. This does not mean that those interviewed are thinking that the new President will exceed his powers.
42% believe that Insurance he even wants to prioritize collaboration with the Government. One third, 32%admits that he wants to force the Executive to act. 22% They think that, in fact, he will mainly want to monitor government action. Therefore, everything points to a good relationship between President and Prime Minister. 43% have no doubt about it and only 8% predict that relations between Insurance e Montenegro will be bad or even very bad.

The information was collected through personal interviews at the interviewees’ homes and with simulated voting in a ballot box, being contacted 2778 individualsover 18 years old, resident in Portugal. 801 interviews were validated. The maximum margin of error is +/- 3.5%, with a 95% confidence level.
