Israeli attacks in Lebanon have already claimed hundreds of lives and injured thousands, including children and rescuers. The ministry blames Israel for the attacks on the ambulances.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced on Saturday that Israeli attacks have killed at least 826 people and injured 2,009 since the start of the conflict with the pro-Iranian Hezbollah movement. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.
Among the victims are at least 106 children, 65 women and 31 rescuers. In a statement, the ministry also accused Israel of repeatedly “targeting ambulances during their rescue operations.” On Saturday, the Israeli army accused Hezbollah of military use of ambulances.
Thousands of displaced people
Lebanese government figures show that more than 800,000 people have been displaced by the fighting over the past ten days. The Beirut government is only able to provide accommodation for around 120,000 people, with displaced residents forced to seek shelter in tents in stadiums and other public spaces.
Israel stepped up its attacks on Lebanon after the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militant group fired several rockets into Israel on March 2 in retaliation for the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in late February. The United States and Israel jointly attacked Iran that day, which then responded with retaliatory attacks on American and Israeli targets in the Middle East and Persian Gulf region.
Macron offers mediation
French President Emmanuel Macron said on Saturday that his country is ready to mediate direct negotiations on a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon in Paris. According to him, Beirut is willing to negotiate.
