Trump says he bombed island that exports 90% of Iran’s oil

US President claims to have destroyed military targets there, but says he chose not to target oil infrastructure

The President of the USA, (Republican), said this Friday (13 March 2026) that the US Army bombed military targets on the Iranian island of Kharg, in the Persian Gulf. The island accounts for about 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports.

In his Truth Social profile, Trump stated that the U.S. “completely destroyed” all military installations on the island, but said he chose not to target the site’s oil infrastructure. The republican classified the territory as the “crown jewel” from Iran.

“Our weapons are the most powerful and sophisticated the world has ever known, but for reasons of decency, I have chosen NOT to destroy the island’s oil infrastructure. However, if Iran, or any other country, interferes with the free and safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, I will immediately reconsider that decision.”Trump na Truth Social.

The American also declared that Iran “has no ability to defend anything the United States wants to attack” and will never have a nuclear weapon. Trump once again called on members of the Iranian regime to surrender to end the conflict. “The Iranian Armed Forces, and everyone else involved with this terrorist regime, would do well to lay down their arms and save what is left of the country, which is not much anymore.”.

International analysts anticipated that the US could target the island. The site is considered the heart of Iran’s oil infrastructure and can carry up to 7 million barrels of oil per day. The 8 km long area is home to the largest oil terminal in the country. The territory receives oil from pipelines from producing fields in southwestern Iran. On site, the product is stored on ships for export. China is the main destination.

Bombings or offensives against the island’s oil installations could immediately impact the global market and increase the risk of an escalation in war, according to an analysis by the Financial Times.

spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had already warned the Persian country’s adversaries about possible action against the island. Asked about a possible attack, the diplomat said that Iran is a “cemetery for the desires and illusions of foreigners”.
