Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto was unable to start the Chinese Grand Prix this Sunday due to car problems.
Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris and his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri were also left out of the race due to vehicle issues.
Champion team McLaren discovered an electronic problem in Norris’ car before he entered the track, while Australian Piastri’s car was removed from the grid and taken back to the pits.
Mechanics removed the floor of Norris’ car, and the team was still working to resolve the problem when the grid was closed for the second race of the season.
The Briton had qualified sixth, with Piastri fifth, but both grid positions were vacant.
“We have also identified an issue with Oscar’s car which means we are unable to start the car from the grid,” a team spokesperson said.
“We have already returned the car to the workshop to have the problem investigated further.”
Piastri won in China last year, starting from pole position.
