Dirceu criticizes US foreign policy in birthday speech

Former minister says that the current international scenario represents a risk for democracies in developing countries

The former Minister of the Civil House (PT) criticized United States foreign policy and stated that international conflicts and geopolitical disputes represent threats to the sovereignty of developing countries. The statement was made this Sunday (March 15, 2026) during a speech at the celebration of his 80th birthday, in the capital of São Paulo.

According to the former minister, the current international scenario is marked by disputes between global powers and interventions in different regions of the world. He cited conflicts and military interventions in countries such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria, and the most recent in Iran, as examples of what he called the advancement of a “international politics based on confrontations“.

Dirceu also stated that Brazilian foreign policy should seek autonomy and defend diplomatic solutions to international conflicts. “Brazilians want peace in Brazil and they want peace in the world”these.

During the speech, in São Paulo, he praised the president’s performance (PT) in international politics and said that Brazil must maintain an independent stance in global relations.

The celebration of the PT member’s 80th birthday took place in the Salão Nobre of Parque São Jorge, in the east zone of the capital of São Paulo, and brought together activists and supporters from different regions of the State. The organization highlighted that the event focused on meeting São Paulo activists. A 2nd celebration is planned for Friday 3rd (18th March), in Brasília, with the presence of politicians and party leaders.
