Pi's world record has been broken

A single server broke the pi world record, producing 314 billion digits in 110 days. Is this completely ‘irrational’?

Being an irrational number, Pi has no end — but that hasn’t stopped computer engineers from chasing their eternal string of decimal places deeper and deeper into the unknown.

Recently, technology media company StorageReview achieved an impressive new record, calculating 314 billion digits Pi num single server Dell PowerEdge R7725.

How do you detail this incredible server? worked continuously for almost four months.

The result in December shows that in modern Pi calculations, the real battle is no longer just about processor speed, but also about storage space and efficiency. StorageReview’s Dell PowerEdge R7725 server had 1.5 terabytes of memory to get the job done.

“The storage tier, specifically, is where this record was really won,” StorageReview representatives wrote in a December 2025 post.

Pi’s previous records have risen rapidly in recent years, from Google Cloud’s 100 billion-digit run in 2022 to StorageReview’s own marks of 105 billion digits and 202 billion digits in 2024.

As Live Science recalls, in April 2025, Linus Media Group and Kioxia won the title by calculating Pi in up to 300 billion digits — but StorageReview recovered the record in November 2025.

Pi is a fundamental constant in mathematics, linking the circumference of any circle to its diameter. It appears in geometry, physics, engineering and statistics, appearing in everything from waves and orbits to bridges, buildings and computer models.

To achieve the impressive result of 314 billion digits of pi, StorageReview provided around 280 GB/s of bandwidth on its Dell server to handle the huge stream of intermediate calculations required for such a large run.

“If someone wants to break the record, we’d like to see them achieve it all: more digits, less power, less total run time, and the same reliability with no downtime. Until then, This is the benchmark for efficiency”, praised the company.
