More years of work instead of a fixed retirement age – who pays for it?


Society is getting older – not only in Austria, but also in large parts of the Western world. Ideas on how the pension system could be relieved are therefore urgently sought. A few days ago, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) made people sit up and take notice with a proposal: In a speech, he spoke out in favor of no longer tying pension levels to a fixed retirement age, but rather basing them more closely on the number of years worked. Does that make sense?
