Iran attacked the Saudi Aramco refinery in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia’s only oil export port. According to sources, the damage is minimal, but tensions are growing.
The refinery of the Saudi Arabian state oil company Saudi Aramco in the city of Yanbu on the coast of the Red Sea was hit by an attack by Iran on Thursday. According to Reuters sources, the damage was minimal. Currently, it is the only port for oil exports from the country, as Iran has practically closed the Strait of Hormuz. TASR writes about it with reference to the Reuters agency.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Thursday called for the evacuation of several oil facilities in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, including the SAMREF refinery in Yanbu, which is a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and US oil giant Exxon Mobil.
Because of the attacks by the United States and Israel, Iran practically closed the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world’s oil and gas exports normally flow. The city of Janbu is with the east of Saudi Arabia, where there are significant oil deposits, connected by the East-West pipeline. Due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, it is therefore the only center for the export of oil from Saudi Arabia.
