During interrogations, the parents initially claimed that the child was healthy and did not take any medication. But later, under the burden of evidence, they confessed to the shocking practices.

The mother stated that James rubbed alcohol on the baby’s gums and around the mouth whenever she was restless or crying. The father added that they both did this almost every day during the entire month before the daughter’s death. It was a dangerous myth, according to which alcohol is supposed to help teething or put a baby to sleep.

Experts warn that giving any amount of alcohol to infants is extremely dangerousbecause their bodies are not developed to be able to process it. Instead of such risky methods, doctors recommend safe alternatives, such as teethers or chilled fruit slices, but under strict supervision. The couple is currently being held without bail and faces charges of first degree murder, neglect resulting in death and conspiracy.
