US President Donald Trump once again said that the war in the Middle East will end soon, as Washington is ahead of schedule, and stated that the world will be “much safer” with the end of the conflict, in comments to journalists before a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Japan, Sanae Takaichi, this Thursday. According to him, American troops will not be sent “anywhere”.
“Iran’s leadership is gone, the Iranians are looking for new leaders, all communication is gone. The country is practically destroyed. The only thing left is the Strait of Hormuz,” he said. Regarding the route, the American president said that Japan, China and Europe receive oil through the location, but again said that he doesn’t need “anything from anyone”, no matter how “appropriate” he considers the support.
“We have a lot of support from Japan, our relationship with Tokyo is great,” he said.
Asked about Israel’s attack on the South Pars gas facility in Iran, Trump mentioned that he asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to attack oil and gas structures.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who stood alongside Trump, said it is possible to witness “defections” at all levels in Iran and that the Iranian regime is likely to collapse on its own.
In the same sense, Takaichi argued that Trump is the only one capable of achieving peace in the world and that Iran should never possess nuclear weapons. “The global economy is close to experiencing a major shock due to the situation in the Middle East. We are in contact with Iran so that the country can end the attacks”, he detailed, mentioning that he has proposals to calm the energy market.
