Silvino was 67 years old.

Former goalkeeper, Portuguese international and historic goalkeeping coach on José Mourinho’s technical team has died at the age of 67, victim of a prolonged illness.

He died Silvino Louroformer goalkeeper and Portuguese international, aged 67. The former SL Benfica, Vitória de Guimarães, FC Porto and Salgueiros goalkeeper succumbed to a prolonged illness. He leaves a remarkable trajectory in national and international football, both on the field and, later, on the technical committees of some of the biggest European clubs.

Silvino added 23 international appearances for Portugal and built a career distinguished by his security between the posts, physical grandeur and unusual quality with his left foot.

His arrival at Benfica, remember, came with a different weight: replacing Manuel Bento, one of the biggest references in the Red goal and the national team. Despite the weight of this legacy, Silvino established himself in Luz after the 1986 World Cup and would end up making 184 games for Benfica in the I Division, between 1986 and 1994. He emerged as national champion — the last official meeting with an eagle on his chest was at Bessa, on June 3, 1994.

Silvino was present at two European Cup finalsin 1988 and 1990. In the first, in Stuttgart, Benfica lost to PSV in a penalty shoot-out. Two years later, in Vienna, the Reds fell again, against Milan, defeated by a single goal from Rijkaard.

After ending his career at Salgueiros in 1999/00, Silvino began a new stage as a goalkeeper coach. He worked for the national team and was part of José Mourinho’s coaching staff at FC Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester United. The last position was held in 2021, at Al Hilal Omdurman, in Sudan.
