At an event with names from the Brazilian market this Tuesday (9), in São Paulo, Richard Quest, anchor of CNN Internacional, assessed that Brazil’s economy is not the best in the world, but that it is moving well amidst a scenario of opportunities.
To CNN Brasil, Quest considered that he also sees a lot of concern in the Brazilian economy.
“At the end of the day, the political upheaval that’s going to happen in Brazil this year, no matter which way it goes, could derail a lot of that optimism. And I think that’s a big concern for a lot of people here,” said the journalist.
The year 2026 will be marked by the presidential election with current president Lula (PT) and senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) as the main candidates in polls of voting intentions, amid high Brazilian interest rates and the geopolitical scenario that puts pressure on inflation around the world.
This Tuesday’s event brought together Richard Quest with names such as Carlos Antônio Vieira Fernandes, president of Caixa Econômica Federal, and Marco Antonio Bologna, partner at Galápagos Capital.
While visiting Brazil, Quest’s main characteristic is to anchor programs around the world and access government leaders and large businesspeople, and thus “have a global view of people from each location and continent”, as assessed by Márcio Gomes, anchor at CNN Brasil.
“Better than anyone else, he [Quest] has a vision of the planet and where it is going”, commented Gomes.
For João Vítor Xavier, president of CNN Brasil, Richard Quest’s arrival in the country brought “a sincere vision from someone who knows a lot about the economy, the world and commercial relations”.
For Xavier, “it was a very special opportunity for CNN to be able to bring the biggest economics journalist in the US to talk to some of the biggest names in the Brazilian economy, major economic groups in our country”.
