Tension in the Middle East remains on the radar in a week marked by interest rate decisions; on the corporate side, Braskem has a big drop
The commercial dollar closed up 1.79% this Friday (20.Mar.2026), quoted at R$5.309. The Ibovespa, the main indicator of , ended the day with a firm drop of 2.25%, at points.
The rise of the dollar followed the movement of other currencies. The DXY – an index that measures the performance of the US currency against a basket of strong currencies – advanced 0.36% at 5:27 pm.
The global mood has infected markets as concerns over the conflict in the Middle East continue. Brent oil advanced 3.42%, to US$ 112.12 at 5:26 pm.
In the local scenario, Braskem’s shares (BRKM5) helped to put pressure on the Ibovespa by falling 14.21% to R$10.19, after the government reduced benefits that were expected for the petrochemical industry.

The Central Banks of the world’s main economies decided to maintain interest rates in decisions that took place throughout the week. In addition to , Canada, the United Kingdom, and Japan also opted for maintenance.
