Now a pre-candidate for the Government of , the former Minister of Finance designed an electoral campaign very similar to the one experienced in 2022, defended that () remain as deputy of () nas and poked at the governor (Republicans) by saying that, to this day, he is not familiar with the state.
This Friday morning (20), Haddad gave a press conference to journalists at a hotel in the central region of the capital of São Paulo. On his first day officially out of , he declared that he will meet with state political leaders to discuss the 2026 elections and that he will seek experts to begin the government plan as soon as possible.
“I’m obsessed with the plan. I don’t like taking on any role without presenting a consistent plan for the state,” he declared.
Although he avoided talking about the profile he is looking for in a vice president, he stated that he thinks it is “natural” for Alckmin to remain Lula’s vice president. On Thursday night (19), the president said that, but that he could also choose to run for the Senate.
“I am the most enthusiastic person about the fact that the two make up a very important ticket for Brazil. Now, we will see how things are shaping up, we will see how the conversations with all sectors of society end. I want to hear the opinion of Governor Alckmin, four times governor of the state of São Paulo, about our chances here and what is the best composition for us to be successful in the election”, stated Haddad.
The PT member added that Alckmin helped a lot in Lula’s election in 2022 and noted that, in some way, the current dispute will be very similar to the one four years ago – Haddad himself will face Tarcísio at the polls again.
“We are going to run a campaign similar to 2022 here in São Paulo. If Lula was the candidate for president, I was the candidate for governor. And we understand each other very well. Now the situation changes a little because he is president of the Republic. I don’t know if he will have an office in São Paulo like he had in 2022, because the HQ [da campanha] It was in São Paulo. The campaign will probably be more focused on Brasília, even for logistical reasons. But I don’t see any reason why it should be very different from [campanha] of 2022.”
Haddad, who resisted the idea of running for Government of São Paulo for months, said that no one will see him saying that he made the sacrifice with his candidacy. “A person who ran the 2016 campaign, the 2018 campaign, the 2022 campaign, are you going to question that person’s willingness to fight?”, he asked.
Afterwards, he declared that he remembers Tarcísio’s delay, in 2022, in deciding whether he would run as a candidate for São Paulo, which is not his state of origin – the governor is from Rio –, and needled his opponent by saying that he continues to be unfamiliar with the state.
“The other day I saw someone from Tarcísio say ‘how are you going to vote for an outsider senator’, referring to . She has infinitely more roots in São Paulo than Tarcísio. She has two daughters who have lived in São Paulo for years, they come every week.”
Also on Thursday night, Lula confirmed that Tebet, Minister of Planning, will change her electoral domicile from Mato Grosso do Sul to São Paulo with the intention of running for the Senate. Affiliated with , which supports Tarcísio in the state, she is listed as a possible candidate for the PSB.
