Lula takes part in a tribute to Mujica in SP

Lucía Topolansky, former vice president of Uruguay and widow of the politician, will be present at the ceremony

The president (PT) participates this Thursday (March 19, 2026) in the ceremony to award the title of honorary doctor (in memory) to the former president of Uruguay (1935-2025), organized by (Universidade Federal do ABC), in São Bernardo do Campo (SP). Lula pays homage to the Uruguayan politician’s career.

The event takes place from 5pm at Cenforpe (Continuing Training and Education Center). It will be attended by Lucía Topolansky, former vice-president of Uruguay and Mujica’s life partner.

The honor is due to Mujica’s trajectory as a contemporary leader associated with the promotion of values ​​such as democracy, diversity, education, ethical awareness and regional integration. The former president of Uruguay, aged 89, in Montevideo.

Mujica was a friend of Lula. The relationship between them has been strengthened over the years because they have similar political values, such as promoting social justice and strengthening collaboration between Latin American countries.

After Lula was arrested, on April 7, 2018, the Uruguayan leader visited the PT member at the Federal Police Superintendence in Curitiba. When he said he hoped that Brazilians could “preserve your future and overcome contradictions”. Mujica was also in January 2023.
