PT favors Congress in the distribution of electoral funds – 03/20/2026 – Panel

The will increase priority to the Senate and Chamber of Deputies in the distribution of their electoral fund, leaving candidates for governor further to the back of the line.

The order was defined internally by a resolution approved at the end of last year and must be ratified by the national directory in April.

The sequence is headed by the presidential election. The change comes next, with disputes for the Senate coming in second place and the Chamber, third. State governments come in fourth, surpassing only races for Legislative Assemblies.

In the 2022 election, state governments appeared right after the presidential contest, therefore ahead of the congressional elections.

Since then, the political scenario has changed, with criticism of the Federal Supreme Court becoming a priority for Bolsonarism. In this context, increasing the Senate bench, which will have two-thirds renewed this year, has become the focus of the right. It is the senators who vote to impeach STF ministers

The PT woke up late to the threat of a Bolsonarist Senate and is chasing the losses. The president himself has said that he would rather win one election for senator than five for governor.

Members of the PT national leadership predict, however, that there will be an outcry from government candidates because of the division of the cake.

Members of the National Executive respond that state campaigns have to do their part, helping to raise donations, and not just depend on the electoral fund.

The exact values for the campaigns have not yet been defined, because the PT is waiting for the TSE to indicate spending ceilings and the exact value of the fund.

The only decision already made is that Lula’s campaign will be entitled to the expected ceiling. The estimate is around R$130 million.
