Coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo, 73, was hospitalized in the early hours of Friday (19) in Palmas after feeling unwell during the night, suspected of having a lung infection.
The former Brazilian national team coach is under observation at Santa Thereza Hospital, where he will undergo a series of tests, according to his advisor.
“The professor remains under observation under medical advice and is expected to be discharged soon,” the spokesperson said. “The condition is stable, without any reason for concern.”
One of the main Brazilian coaches in the 1990s and 2000s, Luxemburgo gained prominence on the national scene in charge of Bragantino, having won the Series B title of the 1989 Brazilian Championship and the 1990 Paulista Championship.
In São Paulo, he led Palmeiras, Corinthians and Santos at different times, winning four editions of the Brazilian Championship.
He took charge of the Brazilian national team in 1998, winning the Copa América the following year. It ended up being eliminated by Cameroon in the quarter-finals of the 2000 Olympic Games.
His last job as a coach was at Corinthians, in 2023.
