Iran’s military warned the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday that did not allow attacks from their territory on two disputed islands in the Persian Gulf near the strategic Strait of Hormuz. In the event of such attacks, he promises retaliation, TASR writes, according to an AFP report.
“We warn the United Arab Emirates that in case of further aggression from its territory against the Iranian islands of Abu Musa and Tonb-e Bozorg in the Persian Gulf, the powerful armed forces of Iran will hit Ras al-Khaimah in the UAE with heavy blows,” the operational command of the Iranian army, Chatam al-Anbija, said in a statement.
AFP reports that the mentioned two islands are controlled by Iran, but they are also claimed by the UAE, which has long been a source of disputes between the two countries. These islands are located in the Persian Gulf near the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran effectively closed after the start of the US-Israeli attacks.
As part of the ongoing war in the Middle East, which began on February 28 with an Israeli-US attack on Iran, the Iranian military is attacking not only Israel, but also American interests in the region and on its neighbors in the Persian Gulf.
Iran claims that its operations are in retaliation for attacks by the United States and Israel and that they are directed against their military infrastructure. However, according to Tehran, the responsibility must also be borne by the states that allow the operation of American forces on their territory, for example Qatar, Bahrain or the UAE. At the same time, Iran claims that the Arab states themselves are not its goal and that it wants stability in the region. The Gulf states have repeatedly condemned this aggression.
