Brits highlight city with beach south of Lisbon as one of the most beautiful in Europe

Meet the beach south of Lisbon whose access costs 42 € and where a shadow can reach 200 €

A few kilometers from the capital, there is a coastal city that has aroused the curiosity of those looking for tranquility, nature and authenticity. With landscapes marked by extensive beaches and a slow pace of life, this destination has been increasingly sought after by foreigners.

The interest is not new, but it has gained strength in recent years, especially among the British public. Still, despite growing international attention, a serene environment remains, far from the urban pressure and mass tourism that characterizes other areas of the country.

A choice that celebrates authenticity

According to , Comporta stands out for its serenity, stunning landscapes and characteristic architecture. Despite the growing tourist interest, it is still possible to find tranquility in this corner of Portugal. Journalist Mary Lussiana, a travel specialist, says that the destination combines Mediterranean and Atlantic influences, resulting in a scenario that continues to surprise those who visit it.

“Despite being increasingly famous for the A-list residents who live around it, you will probably still see more storks, roosting in bell towers and chimneys, than people in the glorious seaside space,” the article said.

According to the same journalist, the “village itself has maintained its charm and is full of characteristic whitewashed buildings with blue details”, being described as “a meeting of the Mediterranean with the delight of the Atlantic”, which is “chic and cheerful”. This balance between tradition and sophistication has been cited as one of the reasons for the growing international interest.

Nature, tranquility and preserved identity

Comporta is distinguished not only by its landscape, but also by its close relationship with nature. The presence of storks, often visible on rooftops and chimneys, has become an iconic image of the region.

The place maintains a strong connection with its identity, with simple buildings and a pace of life that contrasts with more mass tourist destinations. This authenticity is precisely one of the factors that most attract foreign visitors. According to the same publication, this balance between human intervention and the natural environment contributes to a distinct experience, where tranquility remains one of the main attractions.

How to get to this destination from the Algarve

For those in the Algarve, access is relatively simple, especially by car. The journey from Faro is around 220 kilometers and takes approximately two and a half hours. The most direct route is via the A2, towards Lisbon, leaving for Grândola or Sines, then following the signs for Comporta. This route also allows you to cross characteristic landscapes of Alentejo.

Alternatively, it is possible to use public transport, although with some limitations. As there is no direct station in Comporta, one of the options is to travel by train to Grândola and then use a taxi or local transport. Another possibility involves traveling to Setúbal by bus and, from there, crossing the Sado River by ferry to Tróia, then continuing by road to the final destination.

An increasingly sought-after destination

The international prominence has contributed to increasing Comporta’s visibility, especially among foreign visitors. Still, the destination has managed to preserve much of its original character.

The combination of beach, nature and authenticity continues to position this place as a peaceful alternative to other more touristy areas of the country. In a context where many travelers seek more genuine experiences, Comporta emerges as an example of balance between notoriety and preservation.
