Washington – Alexander Ovechkin became the second player in history to score 1,000 goals in the regular season and play-offs of the North American ice hockey league NHL. The 40-year-old Russian reached the milestone on Sunday with a power play goal in his Washington Capitals’ 3-2 overtime home loss to the Colorado Avalanche. Owetschkin is only 16 goals short of record holder Wayne Gretzky (1,016).
