After Ratinho’s departure, Kassab says that PSD will choose a candidate by the end of March

After the governor of Paraná Ratinho Jr. gave up on running as a candidate for President of the Republic for the PSD, the party’s president, Gilberto Kassab, stated that the choice of the party’s name should take place by the end of March. Ratinho announced his withdrawal this Monday.

In a post on social media, Kassab cited governors Eduardo Leite (PSD-RS) and Ronaldo Caiado (PSD-GO). Both aim to be the name of the party for the presidential contest. According to GLOBO columnist Lauro Jardim, the favorite for the vacancy is the governor of Goiás.

“Eduardo Leite and Ronaldo Caiado are highly rated governors, with countless achievements throughout their public lives. Both have presented their projects for Brazil, which will guide the PSD candidate’s government plan. The choice, as previously stated, should take place by the end of March”, says the note released by Kassab.

In the note, the president of the PSD praised Ratinho’s management in the government of Paraná and stated that the party “remains firm in its decision to present Brazilians with a candidacy for president of the Republic, which will certainly be the ‘best way’”. According to Kassab, it will counteract the “polarization of radical proposals that contribute nothing to what Brazil needs”.

Ratinho Jr.’s withdrawal was announced days after Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, pre-candidate for President of the Republic for the PL, endorsed Senator Sergio Moro’s (Union) campaign for the position. The former Lava Jato judge is expected to join the PL soon.
