Portuguese farmers ask the Government for support after the rise in fertilizer prices

Luís Mira, general secretary of the Portuguese Farmers Confederation (CAP), explains that Fertilizers are “determining” for agricultural production.

Portugal does not escape uncertainty. For now, it is not certain what the increase in the price of fertilizers will be, but CAP remembers that it will not be the only product to rise in price.

“It seems inevitable to me that the increase in food price, because the basis of its production is fertilizers”, said the CAP manager.

Focusing on supporting farmers, this afternoon CAP will meetmeet with the Minister of Agriculture.

At this point the next step is to start spring and summer plantings, which this year may be compromised.
