Jannik Sinner is in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open and playing at a very high level. The Italian beat the North American Alex Michelsen, this Tuesday (24), with scores of 7-5 and 7-6, after falling 2-5 behind in the second set.
Once again, the number 2 in the ATP rankings showed unwavering concentration and excellent performance on the first serve, further accrediting himself.
With today’s two, he reached 28 consecutive sets won in Masters 1000 tournaments, having surpassed Novak Djokovic (24) and further increasing an impressive historical ATP record.
At the post-game press conference at Hard Rock Stadium, however, Sinner made light of the brand.
“I’ve said it before, I play for myself. Some statistics are simply not relevant. Winning sets doesn’t mean anything, you need to win the match,” he said, who now faces another North American, Frances Tiafoe, in the quarterfinals, Thursday (26).
More records and feats in the Miami wind
Speaking of winning the game, the Italian’s moment is also worth taking off his hat. , reached nine consecutive victories this season, 14 in a row in Masters 1000, and became the third player to reach the quarterfinals in all of the first five editions of the Miami Open that he played.
“In the first years here, I played a lot on the outside courts. It’s very different, there’s a lot of breeze and a lot of wind at times”, he analyzed.

The Italian, for now, is the only top 10 in the ATP rankings confirmed in the quarterfinals. The other one who could still get there, German Alexander Zverev (4th), is still playing this Tuesday, closing the main court, against Frenchman Quentin Halys.
Earlier, Taylor Fritz (7th) said goodbye to the tournament in front of the fans, eliminated by Czech Jiri Lehecka (24th).
