Young father Dale Atkinson believed that his digestive problems are just the toll of success in business and long hours at work. But reality hit him like a bolt from the blue. What doctors first dealt with with regular pills was aggressive cancer in the last stageinforms
Dale suffered heartburn for years. Already in 2019, he visited a doctor with burning in the throat and spasms in the stomach. He was given pills and assurances that he would be fine. However, the symptoms they were vomiting and getting stronger “The warning signs had been there for a lot longer than I realized,” admits Dale today. When he finally learned the truth in 2024, it was almost too late.
The diagnosis came at the worst possible time, on his son’s 1st birthday. The doctors informed him that he had adenocarcinoma of the esophagus in the 4th stage. The cancer has spread to the nodes and to the aorta. The verdict was overwhelming, it is inoperable and incurable.
However, the hell did not end there for his family. His partner Ana was diagnosed at the same time lung cancer and just a few days after his diagnosis, he mom died suddenly. Just on the day of his elder son’s 3rd birthday.
Dale’s story is a warning to all. If you experience these conditions, seek medical attention immediately. Among them is heartburn and refluxwhich last too long, difficulty swallowing, sudden unexplained weight loss, or constant fatigue and chest pain.
Although they only gave him a few months, Dale refused to passively wait for death. He set a strict keto diet, underwent demanding immunotherapy and genetic tests. “At that point I felt like life was beating our family over and over again. But I realized I had a choice. Accept the prognosis or fight. I chose the fight.” he declares determinedly.
The latest scans shocked even the doctors. The tumor has shrunk significantly and the metastases are receding. Although he hasn’t won yet, Dale proves that even with a terminal diagnosis there is hope. ,,If heartburn bothers you more than 3 weeks, do not solve it only with over-the-counter drugs, but insist on a professional examination (endoscopy). It could save your life,” says Dale.
