US court holds Google and Meta liable for social media addiction

Los Angeles – In a landmark trial over social media addiction, a jury in Los Angeles found Alphabet subsidiary Google and Meta liable on Wednesday. The lawsuit was filed by a 20-year-old woman who said she became addicted at a young age because of the attention-grabbing design of the apps. Because the plaintiffs focused on the design of the platforms and not their content, it was more difficult for the companies to avoid liability.
