Reinaldo Carneiro is re-elected president of the FPF – 03/25/2026 – Sports

President of the FPF (São Paulo Football Federation) since 2015, Reinaldo Carneiro Bastos, 72, was re-elected this Wednesday (25) and will remain in office until 2030. Without opponents, he was reappointed unanimously and acclaimed.

The director, whose deputies will be Fernando Sollero and Mauro Silva, will no longer be able to direct the entity after 2030, as this is the last reappointment permitted by the federation’s statute.

This Wednesday’s election was suspended by the TJ-SP (São Paulo Court of Justice) and, the day before, judge Débora Vanessa Cáus Bradão had denied an appeal by Carneiro. The election, however, took place after a decision by the CBMA (Brazilian Center for Mediation and Arbitration), responsible for deciding issues related to the FPF statute.

After the CBMA’s determination, around 80 directors, including club presidents and representatives of leagues in the state of São Paulo, went to the federation’s headquarters to confirm Carneiro’s re-election.

If he completes his new term, the director will remain president of the entity for 15 years. In a recent interview with Sheethe stated that the period reflects the “quality of service” and said that he will not work to form a successor.

“I will work to form a group of people, professionals, available to the market to improve Brazilian football. Brazilian football still lacks good managers,” he said.

Investigated by the Civil Police since January, when an inquiry was opened to investigate suspicions of fraudulent management and ideological falsehood —crimes that he denies—, Reinaldo Carneiro Bastos came to command the FPF as successor to Marco Polo Del Nero, of whom he was vice-president. When the former top hat player, currently banned from football, went to the CBF, Carneiro assumed the presidency of the FPF.

In 11 years, he had almost no opposition in office. In this year’s election, Wilson Marqueti Júnior, who was one of his vice-presidents, tried to make his candidacy viable, but did not receive enough support to register his ticket.

According to the federation’s statute, to compete for the position, the support of at least 12 clubs is required, five from Series A1 of the Campeonato Paulista, three from A2, two from A3, one from the Second Division and one amateur league.

“I will be even more careful in this new mandate. And we will be alongside the CBF to make football in São Paulo even better. The door of this entity will be open to everyone as it always has been. Thank you very much to everyone for your trust. Count on me”, said Reinaldo Carneiro Bastos in a speech to the clubs shortly after being re-elected.
