Ethanol is a priority at the start of the sugarcane harvest in the Center-South

In the first half of March, production units in the Center-South region processed 1.31 million tons of sugar cane, with 18 units coming into operation.

In the 2025/2026 harvest up to March 16, crushing reached 603.67 million tons, compared to 617.32 million tons in the same period of the previous cycle, a drop of 2.21%.

Regarding the quality of the raw material, the level of Total Recoverable Sugars (ATR) recorded in the first half of March was 99.29 kg per ton of cane. In the accumulated harvest, the indicator shows 138.25 kg of TRS per ton, an index 2.17% lower than that observed in the same period of the previous cycle.

Sugar production in the first fifteen days of March totaled 6.02 thousand tons, with 4.86% of sugar cane used to manufacture the product. In the accumulated period since the beginning of the harvest until March 16, production reached 40.25 million tons.

In the first half of March, ethanol production by units in the Center-South reached 459.67 million liters, 291.26 million liters of hydrated ethanol and 168.41 million liters of anhydrous ethanol.

In the year to date, ethanol production totaled 32.96 billion liters, of which 20.31 billion were hydrated and 12.65 billion were anhydrous.

Of the total produced in the fortnight, 84.11% came from corn, with a volume of 386.62 million liters, compared to 365.46 million liters in the same period of the 2024/2025 cycle. In the accumulated harvest, corn ethanol production reached 8.77 billion liters, an increase of 12.31% in the annual comparison.

In the year to March 16, sugarcane processing in the Center-South region of Brazil totaled 603.67 million tons, a drop of 2.21% compared to the same period in the previous cycle, reflecting a still slow pace at the beginning of the harvest, according to a survey by Unica.
