States will decide on diesel subsidies on Monday, says Ceron

Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Finance said that a “significant group” has already agreed to adhere to the government’s proposal

The executive secretary of the Ministry of Finance, said this Friday (27th March 2026) that the States must present a response by Monday (30th March) on the proposal for a subsidy for diesel imports presented by the government.

Ceron stated that a “significant set” of States has already agreed to offer a subsidy of R$0.60 for fuel. It did not say how many or which state governments have committed to joining. The other party asked until Monday to respond after evaluation by the governors.

The statements were made after the meeting of Confaz (National Council for Financial Policy), a collegiate body that brings together representatives of the States and the federal government. The meeting ended without a definition of the proposal.

“We understand that the meeting was very positive, a debate, in fact, federative, with the spirit of understanding the situation and seeking a solution. The fact that such a large number of States have already signaled here (of membership) allows us to conclude that the meeting was extremely positive”Ceron declared to journalists in São Paulo.
