Focus is on multimodal transport, says president of BlaBlaCar in Brazil

The recent increase in fuel prices is leading Brazilians to look for more economical alternatives to travel.

Platform data BlaBlaCar reveal that the adjustment generated an immediate growth of 16% in the number of new drivers offering rides, comparing the beginning of March with the end of February.

Furthermore, the platform, which also functions as a marketplace for road tickets, recorded a 117% increase in the search for bus trips, especially on long-distance routes, over 300 kilometers, where the impact of fuel prices is more significant for those traveling by car.

According to Tatiana Mattos, from BlaBlaCar in Brazil, this is not a new scenario for the company.

“Every time we have inflationary pressure, we have an increase in our activity”, he explains. She highlights that the platform is already prepared to meet the high demand from Brazilians during these periods.

Multimodality as a growth strategy

According to the company’s president, the company focuses on sustainable mobility based on three pillars: ensuring that people have access to mobility from any point A to any point B, that this mobility is financially accessible and that it has less impact on the environment.

“Our long-term plan is very much based on the best multimodality offer for Brazilians”, says Tatiana.

The company’s strategy for 2027 is to continue strengthening the combination between ridesharing and , with a special focus on increasing the offer of road tickets on the platform.

Unlike others, BlaBlaCar operates in intercity and interstate travel.

According to Tatiana, because it attracts a specific audience that initially came through ridesharing, representing an incremental demand for these companies.

Although the main initial attraction is the more affordable price, Tatiana highlights that users remain on the platform for the social experience.

“I usually say that we are an absurdly digital platform, but that it promotes real connections within cars and vehicles”, he highlights, mentioning that these interactions have already resulted in friendships and even marriages between users.
