Alckmin on being vice: ‘We don’t choose how to serve’ – 03/30/2026 – Brasília Hoje

The vice-president () said this Monday (30) that his participation in the electoral list will only be defined at party conventions, in August this year.

“We don’t choose how to serve in public life. Public life chooses how we can serve,” said the PSE member when journalists asked if he intended to run again for vice-president.

Alckmin’s continued position as vice-president is not unanimous within the PT. Part of the party, which leads the governing coalition, defends expanding the ticket by placing a name from the center on the ticket.

In February, the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, defended handing over the vice to a name from the MDB. This Sunday (29), the president of the PT of São Paulo, Kiko Celeguim, argued in favor of the vice position for Gilberto Kassab, president of the PSD.

“To win the election, we need Kassab and Geraldo [Alckmin] in the correct positions,” Celeguim told Sheet. “Kassab is vice-president and Geraldo is in São Paulo,” he added.

On the other hand, the president of the national PT, Edinho Silva, signals. “I think the alliances with the PSDB and MDB will be built in the states. I don’t believe in a national alliance with these parties, we have to respect the contradictions.”

Diesel subsidy can be extended, says Alckmin

At an event this Saturday (28), the vice president said he expected the war in Iran to last around 60 days, but stated that diesel subsidies implemented by the government could be extended if the conflict prolongs.

“All of this is temporary. We hope that this war issue will be resolved within 60 days, which is a tragedy,” said the vice president. “If you need to, you can even extend it.”

On the 12th, the federal government issued a provisional measure that eliminates federal taxes on diesel oil, establishes the payment of subsidies to producers and importers and institutes an oil export tax.

The announcement was made as a response to the increase in fuel prices caused by , which puts pressure on oil prices. With the measures, the government estimates a reduction of R$0.64 per liter of .

“I have confidence that the states will come and participate, because we need to ensure that the price does not rise and, above all, guarantee supply”, stated the vice-president this Monday, during an event in Manaus, referring to the government’s proposal to also eliminate the ICMS (Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Merchandise) on diesel, with costs shared between the Union and states.

“When the price of a barrel of oil drops, this issue obviously drops. [isenções e subsídio]because it is transitory”, said Alckmin.
