France investigates Iran’s link with attempted attack in Paris

French minister says attack was similar to those that took place in the Netherlands and Belgium by pro-Iran groups

French police are investigating Iran’s involvement in an attempted bomb attack on a Bank of America branch in Paris on Saturday (28 March 2026). The French Interior Minister, Laurent Nuñez, stated this Monday (30 March) that there is a “direct connection” with Tehran due to way of working (operating mode) of the action.

According to Nuñez, the method is similar to recent attacks in the Netherlands and Belgium claimed by pro-Iran groups.

On Saturday morning (28 March), police officers spotted 2 suspects with a shopping bag near the bank branch, in the 8th arrondissement of the French capital. The police arrested 5 people in all. The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation into crimes related to terrorism.

NEGOTIATION WITH THE USA

Despite the suspicion in Paris, the diplomatic climate is one of conflicting versions. The president of the United States, (Republicans), told journalists that the of a list of 15 demands from Washington to end the conflict in the region. “They are agreeing to the plan”said the Republican.

The Iranian government denies this. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baqaei, said this Monday (March 30) that the country had no “no direct negotiation” with the USA to date. According to him, the messages were transmitted by intermediaries and contained “excessive and unreasonable demands”.

MILITARY ESCALATION

A with statements from the Iranian military command. Spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari stated that residences of US and Israeli officials have become “legitimate targets”. The warning came after Iran warned Trump that it would be leading US troops into a “swamp of death”.

At the weekend, the Washington Post reported that the Pentagon is preparing possible ground operations in Iran. On Saturday (28 March), thousands of marines arrived in the region aboard the USS Tripoli. On Friday (27 March), US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the country can achieve its objectives without a land invasion.
