Lula said that the current executive secretary of the Ministry of Education (MEC) is a person he trusts and is close to Camilo Santana
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) confirmed this Monday (30) the current executive secretary of the Ministry of Education (MEC), Leonardo Barchini, as new ministertaking over from Camilo Santana who will run in the 2026 elections. “I want to announce that upon leaving the government, our companion Leonardo Barchini will be the new Minister of Education”, he stated.
“I can’t choose a new minister who wasn’t in the area for him to enter, wanting to choose executive secretary, chief of staff. No, whoever will take his place is someone who knows what is happening in that ministry so that we don’t invent anything new. We now just have to complete what we started to do, it’s time to deliver”, he declared.
Lula said that Barchini is a person he trusts and is close to Camilo. He stated that the Minister of Education was chosen, in 2022, as an “award” for education indicators in Ceará.
Lula participated in the inauguration of public school connectivity works, where he praised Prouni, which he called the “great revolution in education in this country”. He also praised Fies and complained about what he called a “setback” after the impeachment of former president Dilma Rousseff.
“Until 2010, when I left the Presidency, the most fantastic thing in the world was Prouni and Fies. There wasn’t an event I attended that didn’t have a student speaking. Prouni was the great revolution in education in this country. It was the first time we proved that it was possible to put poor people on the periphery to compete for a university with anyone else”, he declared.
