It is meticulously monitored, extensively researched – and feared in the media. But now another monster is coming into focus, one that has so far received little attention in Western perception. The Kikai Caldera is an undersea volcano south of the Japanese island of Kyushu that a Japanese research group says something is now brewing beneath.
