A Matisse, a Cézanne, a Renoir. Only the alarm stopped the thieves from taking more paintings from the Parma museum.
Three paintings by French masters Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cezanne e Henri Matisse were stolen from a museum in northern Italy.
According to Parma authorities, the theft occurred during the night of March 22 to 23, at the Fondazione Magnani Rocca, on the outskirts of Parma. The thieves entered through the main door of the building and took “Cup and Dish of Cherries”de Cezanne, “The Fish”by Renoir, e “Odalisque on the Terrace”by Matisse.
The foundation said the theft took a long time less than three minutes. The value of the works, reported by public television Rai, was not officially confirmed by the authorities, but the robbery could have caused losses of around nine million euros.
According to the police, cited by , only the alarm prevented the thieves from stealing more pieces of art.
The foundation houses a private collection assembled by critic and musicologist Luigi Magnani. The museum also has pieces by artists such as Titian, Francisco Goya, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, Claude Monet, Peter Paul Rubens and Giorgio Morandi.
