Two in the morning, rainy November night in Paris. A woman in her late twenties, red dress, false eyelashes and cinematic desperation. She doesn’t have an umbrella, but she has a basket from the man in the bar where she comes from. Raye borrows the tragic scene straight from a melodrama for her new album This Music May Contain Hope. With a length of 73 minutes and a total of 17 songs, it is as powerful as an entire feature film: the concept album by the 28-year-old pop soul musician is, to say the least, ambitious.
