American golfer Tiger Woods announced on Tuesday that he will take a break from his career to focus on his health, days after being arrested following a car accident in Florida.
The 50-year-old golfer revealed that intends to seek treatment and leave for an indefinite period of time.
“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I will step away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health,” he said in a statement.
“I am committed to taking the time necessary to return healthier, stronger and more focused, both personally and professionally,” he added, asking for privacy for himself and his family.
Although he emerged from the accident unharmed, the arrest report indicates that Woods showed signs of being under the influence of substancesincluding “red, glassy eyes”, “dilated pupils” and movements considered slow.
