In a video published after the announcement, Leite did not hide his discomfort with the decision and said that it fueled political polarization. He stated that initially he will complete his term, which ends in December.
The assessment within the PSDB is that the gaucho had prepared himself to run for President and that he is susceptible to an invitation to the party in which he has been a member since his youth. He migrated to the PSD last year in the hope of being chosen by Kassab.
According to a toucan who spoke to Leite, he did not rule out the possibility, but said he was still under the impact of the PSDB’s decision. The deadline for the governor to change parties and leave office to run for president is Saturday (4).
According to the Panel, there would be no veto on Leite returning to the PSDB, but the presidential candidacy would have to be built internally, without an automatic guarantee that he would run for Planalto.
When contacted, the president of the PSDB, did not comment on the conversations and took the opportunity to needle Kassab.
“The PSDB has always been Eduardo’s home, so he doesn’t need an invitation to return. But as I said a year ago, his mistake was leaving the party and placing his destiny in the hands of one person [Kassab].
