Celina Leão seeks federal support for the R$8.8 billion crisis in BRB

Governor of the DF spoke with minister Dario Durigan about the Bank’s difficulties caused by operations with Master

The governor of the Federal District, (PP)seeks support from the federal government and public banks to resolve the financial crisis at BRB (Banco de Brasília), caused after operations with Banco Master. Celina spoke by telephone with the Minister of Finance, Dario Durigan, on Monday (March 31, 2026), the same day she took office after the resignation of (MDB), who aims to run for the Senate.

Among the investigations into the Master case is the in fraudulent credit portfolios, with overpriced or non-existent assets. For this year, BRB will reduce the budget allocated to sponsorships by 60%, according to an estimate published by the financial institution in the Official Gazette of the Federal District.

“Governor Celina Leão spoke by telephone with the Minister of Finance, Dario Durigan, on Monday to discuss the situation at Banco de Brasília and seek solutions for the institution’s financial balance”informed the DF government in an official note.

Celina decided to remove the Serrinha do Paranoá area from any proposal linked to the bank’s capitalization plan. The land was among 9 areas provided by law sanctioned by the Ibaneis government to create a solution to the institution’s financial imbalance.

Serrinha do Paranoá was the most valuable land in the complex. Its valuation reached approximately R$2 billion. Preliminary calculations of the total land amounted to R$6.6 billion.

The area will be dedicated to environmental conservation. “The governor also ordered Ibram (Instituto Brasília Ambiental) and the Department of the Environment to adopt measures for the creation of Parque da Serrinha, guaranteeing the definitive allocation of the area for conservation and sustainable use”says the statement.
